GarrettStrife Many years ago I lamented that Studio Ghilbli would never touch The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings.
If by some miracle that day ever ocured, it would be Ilthildin who should share the creation of the soundtrack, along side other greats such as Jim Kirkwood.
'The Wood was Full of The Rumor of Him' is something
special. It is as the kids say now, "A big mood." Favorite track: The Wood was Full of the Rumor of Him.

emanuele127 I love Ithildin's unique take on The Lord of the Rings, that conveys the personal scale of the story without losing sight of the epic tale that is set in motion in Book I. The level of craftsmanship and attention to details is stunning: as with Tolkien's masterpiece, one could come back to this album again and again and discover something new at every listen. Favorite track: The Wood was Full of the Rumor of Him.

lichdom Just a gripping release from end to end. Ithildin has this incredible ability to make every note and detail sound just right. Album of the year, calling it now. Favorite track: When You Go, Go As Mr. Underhill.

immaterium This album keeps showing how wonderfully invested the artist is in Tolkien's world, picking small details and building beautiful soundscapes around them, all with a personal touch. Combine that with the captivating cover art by the artist himself, the feel of total dedication is strong with this one. Definitely my new favourite from Ithildin! Favorite track: When You Go, Go As Mr. Underhill.

about

Here’s a new album which returns to the roots of Ithildin.
Inspired by chapter 2, The Shadow of the Past is meant to be the follow-up to my very first album, A Long-Expected Party.

This chapter from Lord of the Rings always seemed very dark to me, depicting Sméagol’s insane loneliness and the end of a peaceful life for Frodo. But as always, Tolkien wrote it with a pen from which emanates light and hope. I always loved these feelings of duality. I hope my music translates it well.
